HISTORY   THE ACROPOLIS RALLY OF GREECE (THE RALLY OF GODS) IS A 51-YEARS-OLD COMPETITION HELD ON VERY DUSTY, ROCKY, MOUNTAINOUS REGIONS, DURING SUMMER, IN EXTREMELY TOUGH CONDITIONS FOR THE MACHINES AND THE DRIVERS. THE RALLY IS ORGANIZED BY THE AUTOMOBILE AND TOURING CLUB OF GREECE. DUE TO HARSH CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLES HAS TO BE RETROFITTED IN A SPECIAL MANNER TO RESIST DIRTY-ROCKY ROADS CONDITIONS, UP AND DOWN SLOPES, HEAT AND ABUSES: POUNDING TERRAIN AND 50+ CELSIUS IN THE COCKPIT. MERCEDES-BENZ HAD ONLY 4 VICTORIES: 1956, 1960 WITH A MB 220SE, 1962 WITH A MB 220SE (W110-W111) AND 1963 WITH MB 300SE (W112). OTHER WINNERS WERE: FIAT, CHEVROLET, JAGUAR, OPEL, FERRARI, SAAB, VOLVO, MINI COOPER, FORD, RENAULT, PORSCHE, PEUGEOT, LANCIA, TOYOTA, SUBARU, VW, CITROEN, ETC. | I. CARLSSON (SWEDEN) AND HP BROMMER (GERMANY) WERE THE MB 280 CE 1980 RACE DRIVERS.
